Your own storage.

Recordings are protected with bank-grade cloud encryption. By default they're kept in our secure managed storage — connect your own Google Drive below if you'd rather a particular person's recordings live in storage you control instead.

Managed Storage & Security FAQ

Where is Managed Storage physically located?

Your recordings and photos are safely stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage within high-security European data centers. Cloudflare R2 delivers enterprise durability, redundant geographic distribution across European zones, and continuous protection against data loss.

Where is the database located and what does it store?

Our application database runs on Neon Serverless PostgreSQL, hosted in European cloud data centers and connected strictly via encrypted SSL/TLS channels. The database contains only essential structure and metadata (such as question prompts, timestamps, durations, and family access settings). Your family audio is never stored in this database.

How is our family audio protected?

All audio files and photos are protected using bank-grade AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit. Your family archive is strictly private — accessible only to your account and the reporters you explicitly invite. We never sell your data, crawl your stories, or train public AI models on your personal voice recordings.

Managed Storage vs. Google Drive — what is the difference?

Managed Storage works out of the box with zero setup: clips are automatically vaulted in Cloudflare R2 with instant streaming playback. Google Drive connects your personal cloud, placing recordings directly into a dedicated 'Storycatcher Recordings' folder you own. Both options keep your recordings private to your family — with Google Drive, you retain direct personal custody of the raw audio files in your own cloud.

What permissions does Storycatcher need for Google Drive?

Storycatcher requests only the minimal 'drive.file' scope. It can ONLY create, read, and delete files inside the 'Storycatcher Recordings' folder it creates. It has zero ability to view, access, or touch any other documents, photos, or emails in your Google account.
